Neffs Preschool functions under the auspices of the Union United Church of Christ church consistory but is managed by its own board of directors and has its own budget. It has contributed to numerous building improvements in the preschool area which included new bathrooms, painting, wallpapering, new ceilings, and lighting which also benefit the children’s church and Sunday school classes who share the space. The most recent addition is a colorful mural for which the painter donated her fee to the church in memory of Owen Thomas.
All teaching personnel are selected for outstanding character, love of children, and training. All staff members are certified in First Aid and CPR.
Nancy Moran- Teacher Assistant
I have lived in Schnecksville with my husband Ben and our 2 now grown children, Jackie and Benjamin for 35 years. I previously worked at Ironton Elementary School for 24 years. Working with children is so rewarding to me, especially when I see them learning and growing, and each becoming their unique self.
Lisa Schaedel- Teacher Assistant
I grew up in Weyerhaeuser, Wisconsin, a very small town, and graduated from high school in 1983. After working in the restaurant and retail business for a few years I had a wonderful opportunity to interview for Pan American Airlines and I got the job! I was an international flight attendant, based in London and then Washington D.C. That is not a career that worked well with raising my two amazing kids, Katherine (12) and Karson (13). So in 2012 I took a very early retirement. Our home has been in Schnecksville since 2007, with the Neffs UCC Preschool providing early education for both my children. We just returned from a three year stay in England. Thanks to my husband’s job, we all experienced living in a truly global manner. Now it’s time to embrace everything Schnecksville has to offer once again. I am glad to be back and once again to have this opportunity to be part of and work for such an amazing church and organization! This is my second year working in the PreK classroom.

I am originally from Southern New Hampshire and moved to the area after living in Juneau, Alaska for seven years with my husband and three young boys. I achieved my Master’s in Early Childhood Education while living in Alaska and taught a K-1 class for one year at the Juneau Community Charter School following my student teaching and also spent four years involved in the Juneau Co-op Preschool as a volunteer parent, substitute teacher and board member during the time my two oldest children attended the school. I have experience working with young children of all developmental levels and value the various ways in which children learn. This will be my second year teaching at Neffs UCC Preschool.
Maryann Puia- Teacher
I am one of the 4 year old teachers at Neffs Preschool. My Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education is from Lebanon Valley College, and more recently, I have completed a certificate program at DeSales University in Special Education. My 11 years of experience teaching children covers a wide age group ranging from preschool to seventh grade. I am excited to be teaching again after taking a break to raise my two children. I am in my third year of teaching at Neffs UCC Preschool.
Welcome families, I am excited to be the Director here at Neff’s UCC Preschool. I have a Bachelor’s of Elementary Education from The University of Michigan and a Master’s of Education with a specialty in Special Education from Lehigh University. In addition, I completed my Pennsylvania Administrative Certification program at Lehigh University. I have taught in Michigan, Florida and here in Pennsylvania. I believe school should be a nurturing, safe, and FUN place for all children, and I believe the program here at Neffs UCC Preschool meets these criteria. Our preschool welcomes ALL children, and we aim to make the preschool years a positive experience for the whole family. My husband Eric and I have two children and one furry, four-legged “child” who keep us quite busy. This fall, I moved my eldest into college 10 hours away, so I understand the emotion of entrusting your child to others. My door is always open, if you have any questions feel free to email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 610-767-5327.
